Therapeutic Practice

It is a privilege to accompany 2SLGBTQIA+, dis/abled and racialized folks ~ emerging adults ~ on an affirming exploration of your experiences of becoming and (un)belonging across queerness, migration, war. racism, sexism, saneism, Islamophobia, ableism, anti-semitism and whatever else is on your mind and in your everyday doing. I have been developing a narrative, relational, and intersectional approach to mental health, grief, and historical trauma since 2010, and am continually learning to foreground Indigenous resiliencies. I am exploring the implications of Mad Pride and strive for a gender and neuro-nonconforming inclusive practice through anti-oppressive dialogue that focuses on your joys and strengths in a world that is unjust.

I am an occupational Therapist (2002), psychotherapist (2014) and doctor of rehabilitation sciences (2016) whose practice is offered online and across most of Canada. A trauma-responsive approach avoids causing further harm, so being able to access virtual care from your chosen safe place (along with a pet if you’d like) is both accessible and can be helpful. Modalities include psychotherapy, therapeutic activities, and/or arts-based individual or group therapies.  My rehabilitation expertise is in consultation and support for university students. We can work together in English and French, and I can listen to you in Arabic.

  • Therapy Agreement (2024)

Choosing to engage in therapeutic services can be helpful at different moments in life. The therapy space needs to be one that provides you with quality support. It is important to agree to the following parameters that help create the bounds of therapy:

Sessions are 50-mins long and offered virtually on a secure encrypted platform. It is recommended that you choose a place that affords you privacy for your session and close your pop-ups.

Language(s) I can offer in therapy are English and French. I can understand and converse in Arabic (Levantine region dialect).

A free 15-min phone consultation is provided to review this agreement, listen to your therapy needs and expectations, decide together whether my approach might be a good fit, evaluate your eligibility for sliding scale fees, and/or suggest additional resources you might find helpful.

Confidentiality will be maintained as per my professional codes of ethics. This includes both verbal communication as well as notes that I must maintain of our sessions – as required by law. Legally, confidentiality can only be broken in the event of the risk that you might be a danger to yourself or others, if a child is in a situation of abuse or neglect, or if mandated by a court order. This will be discussed directly with you if relevant.

Communication outside of booked sessions will take place by email for the purposes of rescheduling, cancellations or brief Q&A only.

Cancellations are expected, life happens. Please email me. Cancellations occurring less than 24 hours prior to your session in the absence of mitigating circumstances will be charged at 75% of your regular fee. I will wait up to 15 mins from the beginning of your session before considering it a ‘no-show’.

You can book a session at your convenience more than 48 hours ahead of time on a calendly link that will be provided. Please note that sessions booked within less than 48 hours are not guaranteed unless confirmed or requested directly by email. As I work part-time, I do not guarantee a traditional rhythm of weekly therapy sessions.

Sessions will take place at a link that will be provided. Please log on a few minutes prior to your scheduled time. You will be taken to a waiting room and admitted to your session once the main room is cleared. The account is a confidential one. No recordings will take place.

If technological issues occur and impede more than 15 mins of the session, I will either call to continue the session by phone or no fees will be charged and the session will be rescheduled.

Receipts will be provided by email every two weeks

I strive to provide expert, accessible and flexible care; however, this remains a human-to-human interaction. If for whatever reason you do not feel a positive rapport, you are in no way obliged to continue working with me. There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions, although it is recommended to try 3 sessions before making up your mind.

Discharge from therapy will take place when you decide, or if you do not attend over a 2 month period.

Fees are on a sliding scale between 70$-110$ payable by e-transfer.

Fees and agreement details may be subject to change on an annual basis.
